Have you heard of Blue Star Museums?
It is an initiative to make many museums and family attractions free to military families during the summer months. The event is put on through a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts, The Department of Defense, Blue Star Families, and museums across the country. From Memorial Day to Labor Day many museums offer free admission to active duty military and their dependents. Over 2000 museums currently participate in the program.
This year will be it’s eighth year running.
You can find a list of participating museums on the Blue Star Museums website. You can search the list by State.
Every year I check the list of participating museums. Every year I am impressed by the large list of locations participating. I always learn about new museums and atractions in my area by reading the list. It is the perfect opportunity to discover new places to learn, play, and discover. The initiative is an effort to improve the quality of life for active duty families. With PCS moves, deployments, and school out for summer there are a lot of reasons to seek out new activities for your family. We plan to take advantage this summer and visit some places we have never been before.
Important to know before you go:
The active duty service member does not need to be present during the museum visit. Active Duty military or dependents with proper ID may bring additional family members with them, as long as there are no more than 5 additional family members.
There is no limit on how many museums you visit, or how often.
Take a look at the list for California – where would you like us to visit and blog about? We have our eye on a few locations. We are interested to hear where you want to go, and what you want to read about!
